Powerful but still reasonably portable, July 1, 2012 This review is from: MSI G Series GE60 0ND-042US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black/Red) (Personal Computers) I chose this laptop after spending a month reading reviews as it was the most powerful laptop (i7 ivy bridge and 660m graphics) I found that was still under 6 pounds. The GT60 and other gaming laptops come in over 8 pounds and often have 2+ pound power strips. I am not looking for an ultra-portable, but that is ridiculous.
I installed an mSata drive ( 128GB MyDigitalSSD BP3 Bullet Proof 3 mSATA III (6Gbps) Solid State Disk) and the thing blazes. It completes a full reboot in about 45 seconds and plays Mass Effect 3, The Witcher 2, and Skyrim beautifully on high settings. When I first got ithe laptop I played Mass Effect 3 while transferring 500gb of files from my external drive in 4 different copy operations and the laptop handled it without a problem. Honestly, I am surprised the manufacturer does not put an mSata card... Read more
Best budget gaming laptop, July 3, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: MSI G Series GE60 0ND-042US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black/Red) (Personal Computers) I just got my laptop today and I am amazed with the performance.
Pros:
* i7/660m monstrous combination
* Anti-glare 1080p display. I value this a lot since I always had a problem with my previos laptop with glossy display
* Handles any game you throw at it with relatively high quality settings.
* Lighter than other gaming laptops.
Cons
* Has a windows experience index of 5.9 due to the low performance HDD. (Processor 7.6, RAM 7.7, Graphics/ Gaming graphics 6.8) You might want to get a SSD/mSATA drive for a better performance.
* Widi doesn't work. May be not really a con. But I believed that this supported it since it has an Intel N-135 wireless card. I will further experiment with the settings and update this section.
* MSI bloatwares.
* Intel N-135 has problems connecting to certain routers. There are more than 12 wifi enable devices connected to the router. Only 2 of them with Intel wifi chips have problems. Currently I am... Read more
