Very Impressed.. A few minor gripes. Pros:
The MSI GT780DXR-446US laptop has enough juice to kick BF3 up to ultra and power out native resolution of 1080p just beautifully without a stutter. Which is primarily what I wanted it to be able to do in terms of benchmarking (along with hopefully carry through the next 3 years of game releases). Bottom line, it is a monster of a mobile machine.. And I say this without even slight hesitation.
I was pleasantly surprised, and did not initially anticipate the sheer quality of audio from the speakers. It won't rival my desktop set-up, but it's a far cry from other gaming laptop speakers I've had and is perfect for travel. Hearing smooth deep bass out of them is a nice touch and providing an artificial 'multi-speaker' surround sound from the stereo set-up is just too cool. Also! I write this as there are not many people rating this item. I got the new Elder Scrolls game Skyrim for Christmas. My older MSI laptop was so overwheled by it's need for power, both computing and electric, that it would overheat and shut down within half an hour. So, this purchase was a forgone necessity for me. I was not looking forward to this kind of purchase since my old MSI laptop had been holding up very well, until now that is. I was pleased with my older laptop from MSI so I was looking forward to this one; I haven't been disappointed.
PROS: Attractive aluminium shell, decent sound from the speakers (see below), a mousepad shutoff button for those times when typing or gaming can be screwed up with a casual swipe across the mousepad, 17" screen that is just gorgeous (shiney, not glare resistant, so, be aware if you are taking this outside or to a cafe or something), LOTS of memory (16 gigs RAM and 1Tb (2ea.-500Gb, RAID 0 array) HD, 3 Gb video... I bought this laptop a week ago and I am enjoying it. I needed more everything and this machine has it all. 16 gb ram, 1.5 tb hard drive (2 x 750gb), 3 gb GPU, and a blu-ray burner which I have not tried yet. I have a HP laptop I bought in 2007 and the start up is about the same between both of them. The difference is when running multiple programs. the MSI has no lag nor does it freeze up like the HP does. I like being able to overclock the fan, no need for a cooling tray, the hp would fry my legs.
This thing is huge. I had to buy a 18 inch case because my 17 inch case for the HP was to small. I do not mind because the keys are spaced better and it also has a number pad included. The back-lit keyboard is a nice feature. The only cons are not knowing when the caps or number keys are on but it does not take too much time to hit them.
